The Schools Division of Dumaguete City, spearheaded by Dr. Maria Carmela M. Visperas, Project Development Officer I, conducted the 2020 Senior High School Expo and Fair on March 5, 2020 at the Dumaguete City National High School Multipurpose Gymnasium, with the theme: “Senior High 2020: Exceeding Expectations, Achieving Better Results.”

Held annually, the Senior High School Expo aims to acquaint all the Grade 10 students of the public secondary schools with the different senior high school programs—offered by both the public and private schools—and guide them in making informed decisions in the selection of their career path.

Dr. Christine A. Paquibot, CESE, the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent (Officer-in-Charge) of the Division, in her opening remarks, expounded on the idea of the Senior High School Expo as a platform that provides a unique opportunity of engagement between the participating senior high schools and the Grade 10 students. She added that the expo serves as a catalyst for the students to make one of the most important and crucial decisions in their life, which is likely to be their first step toward a successful career.

Dr. Gregorio Cyrus R. Elejorde, CESO V, the Schools Division Superintendent, during his message, emphasized four considerations for the students in making their decisions, namely, (1) the students’ particular interests; (2) the opportunities provided by the schools and the government; (3) the market, an often-overlooked variable that directly impacts the two aforementioned considerations; and lastly, (4) the available resources. He also stressed that the previously mentioned items would be for naught without the grit and commitment of the students to push forward and seek help from their parents and teachers when the need arises.
